Dress your personality – Sporty

You may or may not be a fitness freak, but if you practically live in your track pants and running shoes, well you know it, your style is sporty. With new kinds of adventure sports, aerobics and other fitness activities up for experimentation, it’s hard not to have sporty elements in a wardrobe.

But if you’ve always got sports on your mind, it will show on what you wear. And what’s not to love about it? After all, there was even a Spice Girl bessotted by the sporty style!

Sporty style and fitness go hand in hand. Salman Khan is seen in muscle tees and and sweatpants regularly. After all, you don’t get that body without hours of working out every day!

Marathon regulars Gul Panag, Milind Soman and Rahul Bose (also a professional rugby player) take fitness and therefore, their sports gear very seriously. While they wear running shorts and t-shirts during marathons, their athletic style transcends other public appearances as well.

While Kareena Kapoor likes to travel in a comfortable tee and leggings, Ameesha Patel turns her gym gear into every day wear. Priyanka Chopra defines sporty chic with her stylish jersey dress. Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lopez and rapper Sean P Diddy Combs can often be seen going out in relaxed sweatpants.

The stars go ahead to prove that once you get used to comfortable sportswear, it is not easy to give up, whether it is for lounging around or even public events!

To make sure sporty doesn’t turn sloppy, always pay attention to fit and co-ordination. While a good pair of track pants can take you through a busy day; waking up, working and sleeping in the same pair is bound to make you appear shabby. Girls, sporty doesn’t mean tomboyish. Take a cue from Rihanna, who mixes it up with hot red lips and nails for that sexy twist on sporty. Now that’s some sporty chic, isn’t it?

You are a sporty dresser if:

  • For you, comfort comes first while dressing up.
  • Your idea of a fun weekend is a trekking trip or a good cricket / tennis match.
  • You’d rather spend two hours at the gym or running in the park every day than go on a diet.
  • Your idea of “lounge wear” is a comfortable pair of track pants or shorts and a tee.
  • When you shop, you can’t look beyond the sports brands.
  • You proudly wear the jersey of your favourite football / cricket team when their match is on.
  • You love everything that stretches, has mesh or is waterproof.

Fashion from the zombie land

So the  country’s first zombie film, Go Goa Gone releases today! And it has the utterly yummy Saif Ali Khan in what’s easily the most intriguing look of his career. Blonde hair, leather jacket, a sexy stubble et al. While we are fence sitting on whether we actually like Saif’s wannabe Russian mafia look or not, the rest of the characters played by Vir Das, Kunal Khemu and Pooja Gupta, sport great casual chic styles that you can take a cue from, especially because almost everything you see on them has been sourced. A quick chat with the film’s stylist Nital Ganatra revealed what each character’s look in the film is all about.

Now’s the time for neon!

Neons have been around for a while now, but we can’t get enough of this trend. The neon wave has surpassed runways and red carpets, and is now so big that you cannot ignore it. After all, neon screams for attention and that’s what you’ll get when you wear it! It’s fearless, young, fun and very very summer. So, we love it!

Celebrities have endorsed neons in different ways. While Huma Qureshi, Avantika Malik, Natasha Poonawala and Dipannita Sharma wore neon accents in their outfits, Genelia D’Souza, Anushka Manchanda and Nicole Scherzinger wore neon coloured footwear. Sarah Jessica Parker, Heidi Klum, Nicole Richie and Sona Mohapatra accessorized with bright neon bags. Jennifer Lopez did the yummy neon yellow and pink combo, and Katy Perry chose a saturated neon green look.

Neons were the biggest thing in the 80’s and 90’s and now that fashion from those decades is back, neons are back too. But we tell you how to wear them without looking like a blast from the past.

Neon nail paint is a fun way to experiment with this colour. For just a hint of neon, try wearing a neon watch or belt. Carry a neon clutch or wallet, and you will never be bored with your look, no matter what you wear. Neon shoes go great with neutrals; try them with a pair of jeans and a white tee, or a floral printed dress. While you can pair neons with white, black and beige, you must try grey, as it gives neons a base like no other colour. The idea is to include neon in small doses if you’re too apprehensive of wearing a neon ensemble.

We suggest not doing a total head-to-toe neon multicolour look, unless you are going out to a rave party or an 80’s themed bash. If you are not sure how neon would look on your skin tone, don’t wear it next to your face. Always keep the look clean, with not too much embellishment, since it is about the colour, not the texture.

Boys, don’t be shy about sporting the neon trend. While international rappers and pop stars love their fluorescent hues, you can try them too. With everyone from cricketers to umpires wearing neon shoes at IPL, we think it is time to embrace this trend, guys!

Dress your personality – Minimal

There are peacocks and then there are swans. Peacocks like to show off their colourful feathers – we are talking over accessorized, embellished, colourful outfits that are super funky, while swans like smooth sailing in simple, easy on the eyes, classic pieces.

If you identify with the swan, you are a minimal dresser. By minimal, we don’t mean a minimal amount of clothing; strutting around in hot shorts and skimpy tops all the time! It is about clean, crisp looks, low on embellishment and high on elegance. No extra lengths of fabric flowing around, no cluttered prints, and definitely no extra embroidery, beadwork and the like. After all, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Minimalism in fashion can connote something as basic as a little black dress (LBD), a crisp white shirt or a pair of fitted all-purpose trousers. Think monotones (wearing the same colour from head to toe), one piece of statement accessory or even the no-accessory look or even a pristine white zero embellishment kurta if you want to go ethnic.

With their structured cuts and clean silhouettes, designers like Calvin Klein, Victoria Beckham and Celine and Rajesh Pratap Singh and Raghavendra Rathore in India embrace minimalism. While Victoria Beckham is the ultimate style icon of sharp, minimalistic dressing, Kate Middleton looks royalty personified in her beautiful dresses and coats, tailored to fit her lean frame. Our Bollywood ladies Preity ZintaKarisma KapoorPriyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone love to show off their toned bodies in simple, figure hugging dresses. While most male Bollywood stars wear the basic staples, Imran KhanJohn AbrahamVarun Dhawan and Hrithik Roshan have been consistent with their minimal styles.

The minimal look is easiest to pull off, and also the most fuss free. We give you a few effortless minimal looks that have the potential of becoming wardrobe staples. And did we say that minimal is perfect for the ruthless summer months?
