Junior B – the Sartorialist

Few movie stars can claim to be better dressed off screen than on screen. Abhishek Bachchan, who turns 37 today, happens to be one of them. He got his style lessons from Big B himself, but over the years Abhishek has created a distinct personal style that is at once trendy but not overpowering. In 2012, he even made it to the top 50 in the GQ Best Dressed list. Here’s a look at his signature style:

casualsA white shirt and jeans are classic style staples for every man and Abhishek attends numerous functions in them. He pairs his shirts with lightly washed boot cut jeans and accessorises his looks with leather jackets, leather shoes and an elegant watch. The other popular AB look is T-shirt paired with jeans, worn under hoodies and accessorised with a chunky watch that add a sophisticated edge to an urban look.
Fact: Was gifted a framed shirt, signed by his favourite football team Chelsea by the owner of the Chak89 restaurant, F Khalid.
Tips: Wear a white graphic T-shirt with washed blue jeans. Accessorise with leather loafers, a sling bag and a chunky watch. Wear this to the movies.

dressy casualsAll high profile events don’t translate into black-tie affairs. For such events Abhishek opts for a shirt and washed jeans worn with a blazer. He accessorises his look with formal leather shoes, a chunky watch with a leather strap and a turquoise pendant.
Fact: He is the brand ambassador for Omega Watches in India.
Tips: Pair a party shirt with blue denims with a light wash. Wear it with a black jacket, leather boots and a chunky watch with leather straps. Rock this look at a night club.

formalsRed carpet affairs see AB at his sartorial best. He has worn everything from three piece suits to an off-white tuxedo with a bow tie to the black suit with panache. He accessorises his looks with formal leather shoes or brogues, ties, pocket squares and a watch.
Fact: Friends with Tom Ford and Giorgio Armani.
Tips: Wear a black suit with a purple shirt. Accessorise with purple tie and pocket square, cufflinks, leather brogues and a silver dial watch. Wear this to a red carpet event.

Politically incorrect, in your face and totally hilarious – South Park is the antithesis of the creations you see on the Cartoon Network. The animated sitcom chronicles the bizarre adventures of four fourth graders – Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman and Kenny McCormick in and around a Colorado town.

Over the years, celebrities like Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, the Kardashian sisters and Oprah Winfrey have “starred” in the series. South Park even made it to the international runways when Jean-Charles de Castelbajac designed a range inspired by the show for AW 2011. Katy Perry was famously spotted wearing one of his outfits. Rocking it Oprah Style

Wikipedia calls her an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer, philanthropist, the richest African-American of the 20th century and one of the most influential women in the world. We want to add to that list and label her one of the best dressed women on the planet.

Most of us have watched Oprah on her award winning talk show for more than two decades. It’s not an easy task to pull off a fresh look every single day and being a plus sized woman comes with its own set of challenges. Kelly Hurliman and Adam Glassman style her for the studio shows and O magazine respectively and have come up with a winning formula. There have been a few misses, but on the whole, Oprah’s style over the years has been a saga of hits.

What are the trends to look forward to in Spring Summer 2013?

  • More jumpsuits.
  • Chiffon maxi dresses in pastel shades with small floral prints
  • Skirts and dresses with asymmetric hemlines
  • Clothes in pastel shades
  • Self colour embellishment
  • Prints galore – florals, botanical prints, sparrows, butterflies and fruits.

DRINKS WITH COLLEAGUES
The next time you go out with your office buddies, wear a full sleeved knit T-shirt with a ruffled bib with slim fit jeans in rust. Accessorise with a printed sash instead of a belt, leather kitten heels with bow detailing, a little white leather purse, gold or silver bracelets and stud earrings. Keep the make-up minimal and apply blusher, mascara and eyeliner. Leave the hair open and style it in wavy curls.

DRESSING FOR WORK
Wear a shirt with pin tucks and cascading ruffles on either side of the placket with slim fit jeans in aqua blue or sugar coral.  Accessorise with grey or camel colour ballerinas, a tote in grey or camel, a big dial watch with leather straps and stud earrings. Use minimal makeup to achieve a natural look and apply orange or pink lipstick for some colour. Style your hair into a side bun.

CASUAL

DINNER DATE
Look feminine in a one shoulder ruffled dress with ruffles on the hemline and on the shoulder strap and bust. Define the waist with a thin belt. Accessorise the look with beige or white shoes that have cut-out patterns, a delicate sling bag in white or beige and hoop earrings. Apply blush, mascara with a thin line of eye liner and muted red lipstick. Leave your hair open and style it into wavy curls that look natural.

GOING CLUBBING
Party the night away in a sleeveless shift dress with sequinned horizontal stripes. Wear this with black stilettos that have shimmery piping, a black sequinned clutch and danglers. Go for dramatic smokey eyes with nude or lightly tinted lips in pink. Wavy hair completes this look.

LUNCHING WITH FRIENDS
Look chic in a denim romper with a printed sash belt. Accessorise with tan brogues, a tan tote and stud earrings. Use minimal makeup for a natural look and apply a bit of bronzer for a sun kissed look. Style your hair into a messy side bun.

Bangalore Fashion Week Day 3

DAY 3

Day 3 started with a collection called Charcoal by Chaitali Biplab, comprising western casuals and ethnic ensembles with an emphasis on Indian weaves.

What we saw: Shift dresses with bat sleeves, sleeveless maxi dresses with side slits, sari worn with cropped tops, multi layered ghagra paired with a bangle sleeved ruffled choli.

Trend alert: Cotton dresses in oranges, rust reds and off whites are great for summer. Replace the traditional blouse with a cropped top the next time you wear a saree.

Vatsala, Avinash & Rupa G showcased a wedding collection for men and women titled Thread Craft.

What we saw: Saris with heavily embellished pallus, anarkalis with plunging backs, cholis and lehengas in the mermaid silhouette and the showstopper with a rather bizarre installation on her head.

Trend alert: Velvet blouses with sheer saris that have embroidered panelled borders are statement making.

Cinderella by Susanta & Soumik was all about anti fit silk, satin, chanderi, jacquard and georgette dresses in shades of browns, creams and maroons.

What we saw:  A breezy collection of layered asymmetric tunics, skirts with waterfall hemlines, long sleeved kurtas with ruffled hemlines and slits on the thighs.

Trend alert: This summer, loose fit dresses in ombre dyed shades of grey, cream and off-whites will be big. Long sleeved silk kurtas and pyjamas in maroon or light brown are ideal for an evening out.

Lalita & Amit Gupta showcased a colourful collection titled Sheer Delight which lived up to its name.

What we saw: Models in bikinis wore cover-ups that ranged from halter neck dresses, sheer dresses with scalloped hemlines, tunic tops, intricate lace, kaftans, shorts and skirts.

Trend alert: Flowy halter dresses with floral prints and ombre dyed kaftans over shorts are great for summer as are digital printed tunics as a cover up for bikinis.
